Prolific Disneyphile Kurtti has taken the opportunity to profile not only author P. L. Travers but several of the great talents who made the 1964 movie so great. He has also called on a number of fellow Disney experts like Jim Fanning (who discusses a TV adaptation from the 1950s starring Mary Wickes), Greg Ehrbar (whose specialty is soundtrack albums), Disney artwork curator Fox Carney, and Disney scholars Paula Sigman Lowery and Brian Sibley. You'll also read appreciations of the Sherman Brothers, an interview with Oscar-winning costume designer Sandy Powell, and thoughts from other members of the current film's creative team, beginning with director Rob Marshall. Practically Poppins goes above and beyond the mandate of a movie tie-in to become a valuable book for any Mary Poppins fan."―Leonard Maltin, film critic and historianPRAISE FOR PRACTICALLY POPPINS IN EVERY WAY"Kurtti traces the history of the Poppins books and their enigmatic author, P. L. Travers; tells the astonishing saga of how Walt Disney managed, against the odds, to acquire the film rights and take Mary Poppins from book to the movie. He also examines the movie's triumph both as a film and a merchandising phenomenon; and recounts how Mary Poppins went on to recreate her unique brand of magic on the West End and Broadway stage before, bringing the story up to date, with background insights into the making of the sequel."―Brian Sibley, writer, broadcaster, and Disney scholarPRAISE FOR PRACTICALLY POPPINS IN EVERY WAY"This coffee table worthy book by Jeff Kurtti is much more than a visually appealing celebration of the franchise. Reviews

Good book with lots of stories, discussion and photos focused on the recent movie as I expected, but it's strange how there is almost no reference to Julie Andrews, despite longer discussion and references of other original cast members -- even beyond Dick Van Dyke who is back in this new movie. I read somewhere that Julie didn't want to be in this reboot, and I understand that, but IMO it's hard to then create a book on "everything Poppins" without a little more of the original Mary -- except limited photos of her in original movie posters, LPs, etc. It's just an odd handling of whatever the legal situation may be behind the scenes. While I'm keeping my purchase as I've read and turned nearly every page, if I had known that references to Julie Andrews had been practically stricken from this book while other original cast references were included, I would not have purchased it in the first place. Disappointed.
